Indeed this is the case, as long the team is empowered to be inclusive and to bring their authentic selves to work. Too often new team members are brought in to add diversity to the team, but instead end up having to adopt deeply ingrained organizational norms, and the team does not benefit from the dynamic energy that can be generated by diverse thinking. How is that possible when our intentions were to value our diversity? This unintended outcome is triggered by subtle, subconscious mechanisms embedded in mindsets – which can be revealed and counteracted.
